8TH CONFERENCE OF YOUNG NUMISMATISTS
9-11 November 2026
The Conference of Young Numismatists will be held for the eighth time, this year in Debrecen, organized jointly by the Deri Museum and the University of Debrecen, in cooperation with the research group The Golden Age of Hungarian Coinage (1440-1540) (Ludovika University of Public Service, NITK). The aim of the Conference of Young Numismatists is, on the one hand, to provide a platform for early-career researchers to present their work, and, on the other hand, to foster the professional development of promising young scholars. The conference also seeks to encourage dialogue between museum-oriented civil volunteers and academic researchers. Participants are invited to explore questions of numismatics, monetary history, and economic history through interdisciplinary approaches, with particular emphasis on innovative methodologies, recent research findings, and unpublished material.
Thematic Scope:
The organizers welcome a wide range of contributions, including but not limited to:
- Ancient, medieval, and early modern numismatics
- Modern monetary history and financial systems
- Numismatics and iconography
- Monetary circulation, trade, and economic networks
- Hoards and archaeological contexts
- Numismatic methodology and digital tools
- Counterfeiting, debasement, and monetary crises
- Regional and comparative studies
- Numismatics and related disciplines (archaeology, history, art history)
- Collection history, museology, and the history of scholarship
Participation:
The conference primarily welcomes applications from MA students, teacher-training students, PhD candidates, and early-career researchers. Papers should be 20 minutes long, followed by discussion. The working languages of the conference are English and German. Co-authored papers are also accepted.
In keeping with the traditions of the conference, applications are also invited for the poster session.The poster session provides an opportunity to present research that can be effectively illustrated through visual materials (e.g. coin images, assemblages, data visualizations), as well as projects that are still in progress. Posters will be presented in a dedicated session designed to facilitate informal scholarly discussion. The language of the posters may differ from the official working languages of the conference. The printing of posters will be covered by the organizers. The organizers provide participants with: accommodation, meals and publication opportunities.
